You’ll be staying right in the very heart of Florence, in an ancient palazzo dating back to the 13th century. The palazzo was renovated during the Renaissance and Michelangelo himself designed the first floor windows and facade! It’s in a relatively quiet area of central Florence, with limited access for traffic. If you come by car you can park just around the corner in a public underground car park. However, that’s an expensive way to do things (approx 30 euro per day) because you don’t need a car to get about in Florence. It’s far nicer to come into Florence on the train and forget the hassles of city driving! Apartment Michelangelo is just one km from the train station - hop in a cab with your luggage and you’ll be there in a trice: the bustling city is on your doorstep, right outside the quiet seclusion of the gated courtyard. The apartment is situated between Florence’s Duomo and the Bargello museum. You’ll be just a stone’s throw from Dante’s house and the museum dedicated to him and his poetry, and in the area of Florence once the stamping ground of the powerful Albizzi family. It may take you a tad more than 5 minutes to walk to the Duomo and certainly it’s less to walk to the feast of Renaissance sculpture contained in the glorious Bargello - Michelangelo’s works included of course! The little local stalls offer fresh vegetables to cook in your pretty kitchen if you want a romantic meal at home, or you can sample any of the dozens of nearby eateries. The markets of Florence are a delight for anything from shoes to straw hats. Take a bus on Tuesday morning to the Parco del Cascine for the best prices - this is the market most tourists have never heard of! Or stroll across town to the daily market around Piazza San Lorenzo - haggle over prices and try to find time to drop into the lovely chapel there too...! The Farmacia Santa Maria Novella (near the train station) is worth visiting just to sniff the deliciously perfumed air. Dominican monks opened an outlet for irresistible perfumes and medicinal herbs in the 16th century and their stunningly beautiful shop is still going strong today. Apartment Michelangelo was renovated this year and is new to our listing. It's pristine smart and stylishly comfortable. The front door opens into a large hall with the washing machine/dryer tucked neatly into a curtained closet and there’s a handsome bathroom (with shower) just across from the kitchen. The pretty bedroom is quiet and its en suite bathroom is the epitome of modern Italian design. The kitchen is off the hall: a long, bright room with the well equipped kitchen at one end and the dining table and marble-topped antique sideboard at the other. The sitting room is divided from the dining area by clever folding doors, so if you want to use the room as a bedroom, it’s easy to pull the doors closed and be entirely private - otherwise, leave the doors open and you have a spacious, elegant sitting room. In short, Apartment Michelangelo is a perfect home-from-home in the centre of fascinating Florence!
