Conveniently close to the apartments Glorious views over Tuscany
Montepulciano is a hilltop town with an eye for theatricality. You simply can't help but love the atmosphere! It's one of Tuscany's more important wine towns and as such is always bursting with life. You'll find Renaissance art, well-stocked cantinas, shops and eateries aplenty and it's just 10 km from the Umbrian border. Culture buffs are spoilt for choice with all the great art on offer and all the best towns within easy reach, as a glance at any map will show. Scenic Siena is an hour's drive away and picturesque Pienza just 20 minutes; this humble little village was transformed by Pope Pius II in 1460 to become one of the earliest Renaissance masterpieces.

For the wine buff, there's the local Vino Nobile to sample in cool vaulted wineries. Slightly further afield, pilgrimages to the vineyards of Montalcino and Chianti will be the stuff of many a happy morning's wine tasting.

Podere Fontecastello's apartments are attractive and pleasingly rustic with nice touches like heirloom wrought iron beds (with comfortable, modern mattresses!) and handsome pieces of old oak furniture. The bathrooms are all fully tiled and sparklingly clean.

La Loggia has a private, and quite lovely, shady loggia for outdoor eating and lounging. It is as appealing indoors as the other two apartments and the kitchen has recently been refurbished, making it even more attractive.

La Scala is above La Loggia. It's prettily furnished and includes a nice well-equipped kitchen, a double bedroom, a small room with a single bed-settee and bathroom.

La Doppia is large, and has a full kitchen with oven, hob and fridge-freezer, two bedrooms and bathroom. La Scala and La Doppia both have the pleasant garden for sunbathing and eating.

All three apartments are authentically Tuscan and the warm welcome you'll receive is genuinely Tuscan too!

La Loggia

We returned to La Loggia following last year’s visit and, again, we were not disappointed with both the hospitable welcome from Antonella and her family and the simple, yet charming and comfortable accommodation. It’s a perfect setting at the foot of the lovely medieval town of Montepulciano and for exploring the southern Tuscan region, with a trip to Lago Trasimeno and the hill top town of Pienza, a must!!

Jerry Gumeniuk, Bradford.

Our stay at La Loggia was everything we hoped it would be - beautiful surroundings, good food and wine, lovely people - and our hosts could not have been more generous and helpful.

We were travelling by public transport but it was very easy to walk the 500m from the bus station down to Fontecastello. There is a supermarket near to the bus station and for those who find an uphill walk to the beautiful historic centre of Montepulciano daunting there is a frequent bus service. We were also offered lifts whenever we needed them.

When there was a national bus strike on the day we returned home Antonella arranged for us to be taken to the railway station at Chiusi.

We look forward to returning sometime in the future.

Anne and Joe Johnson, Yorkshire.

Great place, much more spacious than we anticipated from the web description. Lots of character and lovely view and feel from the garden. Signora Marina, Signor Santo and Antonella were very lovely and careful and we really enjoyed our stay. Our daughter loved the geese, chicken and the rabbits and we enjoyed a walk through the property.

Mariolina Salio, Oxford.

Owners were very welcoming, helpful, friendly and approachable. They advised and found train times etc for trips to various places where we didn't want to take the car. They were even very patient when we locked ourselves out of the apartment!

The gifts of eggs and home baking were also very nice gestures - and very tasty!!. We will definitely book again if we return to the area on holiday next year.

Tom & Helen Robertson, Aberdeen.

La Scala

Marvelous accommodation in great surroundings. Extremely friendly and helpful hosts. Great location for easy walking (15 minutes) into Montepulciano and for day trips to nearby towns and villages either by car or public transportation (bus terminal is a less than 10 minute walk from accommodation).

This was our second stay at this property and we will eagerly return.

Charles Hunt, Victoria BC.

We got along great at the property and were very well taken care of. The property is very well maintained and provided a great location to relax.

Trev Pelzer, Oregon.

Everything was wonderful - we had a great time. The hosts were charming and provided us with bounty such as olive oil, wine and fresh eggs. Very convenient spot, close to the town and the bus station for trips around the countryside when we could tear ourselves away from the wonderful vistas from our balcony.

Already thinking about when we might go back!

Joan and Derek Hart, Ontario.

Our stay was perfect. The owners could not do enough for us. The property was very clean and we were provided with fresh towels every 2- 3 days. We also received gifts of wine, olive oil and fresh eggs. The Santi family work very hard on their farm and still find time for their guests!!

The property is very near the bus station and therefore although we hired a car you could have travelled around using the local transport.

The area in general is very peaceful and the local people are very friendly.

Martha McCaul, Edinburgh.

La Doppia

Marina, Santi and Antonella were such friendly hosts. We never felt like just another group of tourists; they were happy to struggle with our hopeless Italian to make us feel welcome. The farm is a great location as the walk up into the town helps to counteract all the delicious Italian meals! Also it's easy to visit other places like Siena, Pienza, Montalcino using the buses if you're reluctant to take on the stress of driving as we were. There are wonderful walks through the countryside in all directions. The actual apartment La Doppia was very comfortable and has everything you needed to eat at home if you choose to. And last but not least, Santi and Marina's wine is delicious - forget about Brunello!

Ruth Laxton, Australia.

We had a wonderful time at La Doppia. Antonella was very helpful to us as we settled in, and we soon learned our way around Montepulciano and the surrounding beautiful countryside. The location is excellent. It was easy to get into town for groceries (we had a car, but walking is possible also), and we took some fine day-trips, to Pienza and to Siena. The lodging was comfortably furnished, with plenty of room for four. Everything in the kitchen worked. We were all sorry we hadn't booked for two weeks.

Richard Jackson, Washington DC.

This is a beautiful and spacious apartment on a pretty working farm with very helpful and attentive hosts, who presented us with a bottle of their own vino nobile on arrival. The apartment has two large bedrooms and a spacious living/dining/kitchen with high ceilings and good quality rustic furniture. The thick walls kept us cool in hot weather, and the views from the windows were charming. It is within walking distance (uphill) of the charming mediaeval hill town of Montepulciano and in the middle of rural Tuscany. We had pleasant day trips to Sienna, Cortona and Assisi.

This was the first time I had driven in Italy and also the first time I had driven on the right hand side of the road, and getting around southern Tuscany was good practice before heading to the busier parts of northern Italy.

We loved our stay at La Doppia and are grateful to our hosts for helping to make our holiday wonderful.

Michael and Diane Batterham, Adelaide.

When we arrived we were greeted warmly by Antonella, then shown to our rooms which were comfortable and clean, as was the rest of the property. The surrounding area was beautiful with great views across the valley to surrounding farms. Montepulciano was an easy walk from the farm, where we enjoyed some great food and of course great wine, we all found it a great joy on our many excursions etc.

A really nice place to stay, we hope to return soon.

Frank and Pat McLuskie and friends, Edinburgh.

The property was lovely with superb views of the vineyards and surrounding area. The family were so friendly, helpful and generous. We enjoyed every minute and would have loved to have stayed longer. We would recommend the property to anyone.

Frederick and Kathy Westphal, North London.
