Casale
degli Ulivi is the handsome Umbrian farmhouse you’ve always
dreamed about! It offers an immensely high standard of accommodation.
There are superb views, your every need is catered for and you are
just 20 km from Lake Trasimeno with its ferry boats and little islands
to explore. There’s loads of space at this lovely property,
enough to please everyone in your party!
Casale degli Ulivi is just outside the tiny hamlet of San Giovanni del Pantano, a dozen or so kilometres south of Umbertide (with its busy Wednesday morning market) and the same again north of Perugia (Umbria’s atmospheric capital city). A little less than 1 km of white road brings you to your door. Sandra and her husband live just across the way in a little bungalow and they will look after you superbly. Sandra cooks like an angel if you’re allergic to holiday chores while her husband discreetly ensures the pool and grounds are in perfect order for you. As you can see from our photos, this is a house where a great deal of attention has been paid to your comfort. All the rooms are really large and there’s a real feeling of light and open space to this delightful villa. On one side of the house, a long terrace, furnished with great squashy sofas, looks down to the pool and out to the hills. The other side of the house offers a second shady terrace with a huge stone dining table perfect for summer meals light by the dancing fireflies. Inside you’ll find an enormous sitting room (everything at Casale degli Ulivi is on a grand scale) ready to lap you in delicious comfort. There’s also a family room with satellite TV, a rustic dining room with great oak table and an outstandingly well-equipped kitchen. There’s a large ground floor bedroom suite, with doors out to a side terrace, and a suitably large en suite bathroom to please those who wish to avoid the stairs or just want to be spoiled in lovely surroundings. Upstairs, there are five bedrooms and three bathrooms, all beautifully furnished of course. For the golfer, the Perugia golf course is barely 30 minutes drive away while Tuscany’s many charms are little more than an hour away. The Summer’s Leases House Book will ensure you know where to find the Armani, Dolce & Gabbana and Gucci outlets so you can stock up with fashion bargains and it’ll point you in the right direction for the lavishly decorated china (everything from plant pots to dinner services with matching wine goblets) at Deruta and the world class wines of Torgiano. Good grey Gubbio and its exciting funicular to take you for a ride above the tree tops is only 40 minutes drive away. You really are well located for sightseeing - if you can tear yourself away from the comforts of this wonderful house. You’ll find this villa is very special - a real gem!
The property is beautiful, very spacious with stunning views of the surrounding, wrap around mountains. It is very peaceful. Juan Carlos and his wife, the caretakers, were exceptionally helpful and kind. When we arrived very late on our first night, not having eaten, they quickly cooked up a delicious meal for us at no cost to us. The kitchen is magnificently appointed and the pool very user friendly. We had a terrific time. Neil Calver, London. It was amazing value for money and we had a wonderful week. We weren’t bothered that we didn’t get everywhere that we wanted, because we know we’ll be back! Thank you for all your help, especially accommodating the extra couple at the last moment - most appreciated! Avril Baigent, Northampton. We loved our stay at your wonderful home. We were a group of 9 with 5 children under 7. The home easily catered for all of our needs. We will come and stay again.
Sergio Duchini, Melbourne. We had a lovely time and were really impressed by the house. There’s masses of space, and the three double bedrooms are all (equally) huge, with their own dressing rooms and shower rooms - this made it particularly nice and easy to share with two other families, as everyone was equally well catered for. All the living accommodation is enormous and well equipped. The pool is huge and lovely. There’s a big cupboard chock full of kids videos and games. Carlos and Sandra were really helpful and kind, and cleaned much more thoroughly than you indicated they would, three times a week! We were impressed that all the furniture and equipment was really high quality - like pool seats, loggia sofas, and dining tables and chairs. We’re all foodies and were delighted with the kitchen and how well equipped it was. It became a game to try to catch it out in not having some obscure pieces of equipment - but we couldn’t do it! To sum up, we loved it and it was worth it! Grace Kitto, Devon. This is a beautiful place to stay. We were delighted that the property not only lived up to, but exceeded our expectations based on the website descriptions and photos. The house is exceedingly lovely inside and out. There were 11 of us, and we never felt that we were tripping over each other. There are plenty of nooks and crannies inside and out to escape to when you want solitude. The outdoor dining area was terrific - we used it almost every night. Sandra also cooked for us a couple of nights - good cooking, and lovely service! The pool and surrounding patio were lovely and a great respite at the end of our hot sightseeing days. Joyce Maroney, Massachusetts. When my family (11 in all) arrived at the villa, they were like kids in a candy shop. The pictures on the internet came nowhere close to showing the beauty of the setting and house. We cooked every evening meal at the villa. We enjoyed the the pool and loggia through out the day. Being Americans who are used to air conditioning this time of year, we were concerned about heat. Your advice on shuttering the house kept us very cool and comfortable. When we returned from day trips, the villa was cool and welcoming. It was a delight to meet the owners of the villa. They had us up to their home and for coffee and graciously gave us a tour of the 13 century watch tower! The teenagers found this enchanting! They also loaned us a telescope for star gazing. Julia Webb-Bowden, Durham NC. The villa was perfect in almost every way. Sandra and her husband could not do enough for us. She cooked evening meals on half of the nights of our stay, and all our family and guests were very complimentary about the quality. The villa and surrounds were kept in pristine condition. Although we had 5 grandchildren (all under 2½ years old), she never once complained about our sometimes chaotic meals. I am sorry we did not write anything in your house book before leaving - our holiday was as near perfect as we could have wished. William Arbuckle, Dundee. A fabulous retreat from which to explore the beauty of Italy and relax in the hills. Expectations were hugely exceeded. The only problem now is how to top this next time.....Viva Italia! Tim Below, Wiltshire. My family and friends had a thoroughly wonderful holiday in Casale degli Ulivi. It was a pleasure to get away from everyday life and enjoy the Umbrian countryside. Most evenings were spent sitting out on the covered terrace enjoying a quiet drink and the sunsets. On the very few evenings when the weather turned inclement we watched some magnificent thunder/lighting storms which passed very quickly. The overall holiday experience was appreciated by everyone and my status as holiday finder has been enhanced. Judith Charlesworth, Huddersfield. |
