Location...
This superb apartment is on the third floor, reached up gently sloping stone steps. It has two special bonuses: a delightful terrace and air conditioning - essential in the hotter months! The owners are a sweet Florentine couple and they take a real interest in ensuring that everything is perfect in this apartment for guests to really enjoy their stay.
The apartment is situated in the synagogue area, really handy for the markets of Piazza dei Ciompi (antiques and nick-nacks) and Sant’Ambrogio (fresh, cheap produce) and the shops of Borgo La Croce. It’s a diner’s paradise with tens of restaurants nearby from elegant Cibreo to humble take-aways. The duomo and the “tourist centre” of Florence is a mere five minute walk.
The apartment is on two levels. The main level has the sitting room with dining table, the well-provided kitchen, the two spotless double bedrooms and the first bathroom. Up a flight of stairs is the second sitting room with single bed-settee for a fifth guest. There’s also a private bathroom with shower for the person sleeping here. Then of course there’s the terrace, up a different flight of stairs from the main level - well it is panoramic!
In short, our Sant’Ambrogio apartment is Florentine perfection!
The apartment is situated in an excellent location, 5 mins. walk from Santa Croce and only a little further to Palazzo della Signoria and all the sights and sounds of Florence. In the apartment, even though it was February, it was quite cosy.
The rooftop terrace was excellent and we even had an afternoon in the sun eating and drinking ... which is what Italy is all about after all!
We left feeling that we'd had another "home from home" experience, courtesy of Summer's Leases and our break was made even easier when the owners, taking pity on 2 non-Italian speakers, booked a taxi to the airport for us.
PS free high speed internet access was fantastic!
Ways to keep warm?
The twins, Brunelleschi & Giotto
We loved the markets nearby and the small artisan shops etc. It was friendly, a taste of the “real” Florence.
No problems at all getting to the apartment and we were warmly welcomed the minute we arrived.
We had a wonderful holiday, thank you.
