Badia a Coltibuono is part of the stunning Chianti countryside in Tuscany. The “badia” was an Etruscan settlement 2000 years ago, became a rich abbey - badia - 1000 years ago and today it’s an idyllic farm of almost 1000 hectares, given over to vineyards and olive groves, all cultivated without the use of chemicals. The beautiful old badia offers tours of its estate and its wine cantina with sommelier-guided wine tastings. There’s also a charming garden to see and an elegant restaurant serving divine food. But we are concerned with their outstanding cookery classes!
Lorenza de Medici started cookery classes at Badia a Coltibuono 20 years ago. Now you can spend a superb day learning the secrets of Tuscany’s most authentic dishes, in one of Tuscany’s most exclusive locations, in the hands of world class chef Andrea Gagnesi. Chef Andrea speaks excellent English and he’ll welcome you into his professional kitchen to give you hands on experience in organising and preparing an Italian meal to remember - which, of course, you’ll sit down to enjoy at the end of your cookery session. Non-cooking partners are welcome to wander the estate, sample wines or lounge by the pool while you are soaking up professional tips and authentic regional recipes guaranteed to wow friends and relatives when you get back home. Your dishes will be served with suitable Coltibuono wines for your added pleasure. A cookery class at Badia a Coltibuono is not only a unique holiday experience, it will sparkle in your cookery skills forever!
You can book a class on any Wednesday or Friday. They are held from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. You'll be welcomed, given a tour of the abbey and its ancient wine cellars, and then the really serious stuff begins at 10. 30am. You'll prepare a full classical menu based on regional recipes. At the end of the cookery lesson you'll enjoy the results of your labours in Badia a Coltibuono's beautiful private dining room. Lunch is followed with a leisurely coffee and grappa, served in the Fireplace Room or outside in the garden as you prefer.

Guided Tour of the Coltibuono estate
From May to October every day on the hour between 2.00 pm and 5.00 pm.
5 euro per person (children free), lasts 50 minutes.
Wine Tastings at Badia a Coltibuono
From May to October 11.00 am Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Fridays.
12 euro per person. A guided tour of the estate followed by a wine tasting, lasts 1 hour 30 minutes.
From February to November sommelier-guided tasting 18 euro per person - lasts 2 hours. *
From February to November tasting the "Riserve storiche" 40 euro per person - lasts 2 hours. *
