Golfing in Umbria

Golfing in Umbria Umbria offers two excellent 18 hole golf courses, ideal for a day (or several!) on the green during your holiday

Perugia Golf Club

Located on the edge of Perugia at Santa Sabina, Perugia’s golf club is set in gently undulating parkland with an 18 hole par 72 course. Cunningly redesigned by David Mezzacane in the early 1990s - this small, richly planted course is a treat for any keen golfer. The club has a friendly bar and a rather nice restaurant too. The pro shop is stocked with stylish Italian golfing necessities from shoes to gloves and all the latest gear. If you are dropping in for a day's pleasure on the green, you can rent clubs for just 30 euro a day. Non-playing partners could be dropped off to explore atmospheric Perugia for excellent shopping and great art. It's only a 5 minute drive from the golf club to the cute little mini-metro station at the “Stadio” in Madonna Alta. The mini-metro runs at 2 minute intervals, so it won’t be long before the next little train stops by to whisk non-golfers up to Perugia for a very fine time while the golfer happily indulges themselves down below. If the golfer is really feeling guilty, they might drop off non-players at Torgiano to taste the world-class wines at the Lungarotti cantina there or carry on just a little further to please their partner with an interesting morning snapping up ceramics at Deruta - fabulous pots and crocks of every kind in dazzling colours and every style from medieval copies to ultra-modern styles - both towns are within a 30 minute drive of the Perugia Golf Club.

Green fees Tuesday to Friday: 18 holes 70 euro, 9 holes 40 euro
Clubs hire: 30 euro

Antognolla Golf

Located half way between Perugia and Umbertide in the heart of Umbria, the Antognolla golf course offers an especially picturesque setting for this superb course set in 600 hectares of nature reserve that is the Antognolla Estate. This is an 18 hole par 71 course designed by Robert Trent Jones II - he designed the Celtic Manor course which hosted the 2010 Ryder Cup, so you know you’ll be in for a satisfying challenge. You’ll find smooth greens and pristine fairways, a fine driving range, golf carts aplenty and an excellent clubhouse and restaurant. The pro shop offers all you’d expect, plus delights like locally sourced cashmere jumpers and amusing candles in the shape of gold balls. Summer’s Leases guests renting one of the luxurious villas on the estate are automatically entitled to a 20% discount of green fees and a 10% discount in the club’s restaurant. The views and scenery at Antognolla are simply stunning. Non playing partners might enjoy a trip to the Wednesday morning market at Umbertide or a trip into Perugia as mentioned above. The mini-metro stop at Madonna Alta is 20 minutes drive from Antognolla, so it would be easy to organise a day to please both players and non-players.
