Having recently returned from Villa Alventura in Barga we are left with nothing but lovely memories. The villa itself was outstanding, felt authentic but very well maintained, with a great well equipped kitchen. Pool was outstanding plenty big enough for family games and views over the Tuscan hills were spectacular particularly from the balconies and pool. Barga is a beautiful hilltop town with some excellent restaurants and cafes, a perfect place to while away a few hours. Lucca is a beautiful town and only about 40 mins away by car or train. Anne and Simon were excellent hosts and definitely went the extra mile to make the holiday memorable, always happy to offer help and advice. On arrival with a young screaming baby Anne was waiting with cold drinks and a room ready despite us arriving earlier than arranged . Would definitely return here and would highly recommend it to friends -fantastic!
This year was our 3rd visit to Villa Alventura in Barga. The villa looks like a feature on Tuscan Homes from a glossy magazine, very tastefully furnished indeed. I love the views over the mountains and down into the wooded valley, the Villa itself has large lovely bedrooms with great en-suites. The kitchen is well equipped & the living area a comfortable social place. The pool is fantastic. Best of all Anne goes the extra mile providing toys and videos for our little girl & organising mountain biking trips, booking tables & taxis and generally being a wonderful host. Barga itself is a beautiful & interesting small town. There are lots of lovely places within easy reach.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week staying in this superb villa with our two teenage children. We have rented many holiday villas over the years and the views from Villa Alventura are unparalleled. It was such a pleasure to open the bedroom door each morning, allowing the sun to stream inside, and to step out on to the verandah, which has the most spectacular view of the wooded valley and mountains in the distance. The swimming pool is lovely and the house is extremely well equipped and very comfortable. Anne was very welcoming and helpful and we appreciated the bottle of wine, fruit and other provisions that she left for us on our arrival. The house is in a great location being very close to Barga, which is a picturesque hill town with many restaurants and a supermarket, not far from Lucca and a short drive to some dramatic mountain scenery. We would definitely like to return.

One of the best choices we made in planning our 3 week vacation in Italy was booking Villa Alventura! Our group of 3 couples did a lot of research to find the perfect villa and the helpful advice of owner Anne prior to booking was the deciding factor in making our choice. With a GPS and good instructions we were able to find our way from Florence airport where we had rented our van. On arrival we all fell in love with our new home with the amazing views and Tuscan feel. We appreciated the little touches like fresh fruit, a bottle of wine, and washcloths! Every couple was happy with their spacious bedroom/bathroom and we couldn’t wait to enjoy the pool and many outdoor seating areas with amazing views. We got groceries at the nearby supermarket and spent the next day just enjoying the villa; one of our best days! We were fortunate to be able to enjoy the pool in late September. I had reservations about being so far from central Tuscany but in hindsight it was nice to be in a less touristy area. We took a day trip to Lucca and biked on the wall; spent a day exploring in Barga; took a cooking class in our villa arranged by Anne; explored the local wine route; and took a day trip to Cinque Terre (I highly recommend you let Anne guide you as we did). As much as we enjoyed these outings, we found we were always eager to get back “home”! I would recommend you have your own vehicle, however I do think you could book this villa and just tour with Anne as she provides airport transfers and many options for exploring the area. Don’t forget to spend some time just living “la Bella Vita” at Villa Alventura and in the lovely town of Barga!
We have just returned from a wonderful week in Villa Alventura. Anne, the owner was extremely nice and very helpful and was immediately on hand to recommend and book restaurants, days out and wine tastings etc. The villa is very comfortable, clean and homely and had everything we needed. The views over the hills were wonderful and every day painted a new picture. I especially loved sitting on the balcony each morning watching the sunrise change the landscape. There are lots of little places to sit and relax and the pool was great. Our 3 children loved it too - there was something for everyone. The villa is a short way out of town, so wonderfully peaceful. Anne arranged for a friendly taxi service to take us into Barga in the evenings to have dinner at L'Osteria (fab Bisteca!)and enjoy the jazz festival. The track to the villa was a little worry the very first time, but we soon got used to it and it added to the fun! We loved the kitchen and everything in it and the bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms were cool and spacious. I would definitely recommend a stay here... it's very lovely. We want to go back!
