Our philosophy at Summer's Leases has always been to select only those apartments and villas that we would enjoy staying at. Il Giardino Segreto (The Secret Garden) is a perfect example.
It's situated less than 300 yards from Montepulciano's central Piazza Grande so couldn't be more convenient for shops, bars and restaurants. Yet it has a large private garden for you to dine out, sunbathe or just laze around.
It's on the first floor so you go up a classic flight of Italian marble stairs to the apartment. Straight ahead is the main sitting room, open plan with a comfy settee, satellite TV, a dining table should you want to eat indoors and a well equipped kitchen wall: 5 gas hobs, an electric oven, large fridge-freezer, dishwasher, toaster, coffee machine etc.
There's also a second sitting room (also with TV) with another settee and doors out to the garden.
The two bedrooms are beautifully decorated and furnished in Tuscan style and each has its own bathroom with shower.
As if that's not enough, there's the "secret garden". It's divided into three areas, a lower terrace for eating or sitting, a central grass area and the top sunbathing terrace. We think this is unique in Montepulciano!
The town itself, for those who don't know, is a wine lover's paradise. The famous Vino Nobile comes from here and there are plenty of cantinas along the city streets where you can go tasting, or explore the spooky Redi Cantina to step back several hundred years.
Those intent on sightseeing are well catered for too. As well as Montepulciano's own San Biagio church, based on designs by Bramante. In addition Pienza, Bagno Vignone and Siena are all within an easy drive. There's something for everyone at Il Giardino Segreto.
