Set in 5 acres of land, this child-friendly villa is perfect for families or friends sharing. The villa sleeps 6. If you choose to add the little cottage at the bottom of the garden, you can sleep 8 in total. The cottage is ONLY available to those booking the main house and is perfect for friends or grandparents who want to share the family fun, but also prefer a quiet space of their own.

La Casa Rossa is an hour from Rome, taking the new high speed freccia rossa trains from Orte, and it's just over 5 minutes drive from the ancient, utterly delightful, town of Amelia. Amelia dates back to at least the 5th century BC, though Pliny says it existed as long ago as the 11th century BC! It's a splendid little town, full of picturesque streets, enticing shops and inexpensive eateries. Our favourite, La Locanda del Conte Nitto is simply heaven while for pizza enthusiasts, the super-light soya flour pizza at the "Porcelli Tavern" is a must.

In summer, every village around Amelia holds its own festival - a throw-back to pre-Christian times. Read the posters in town or call in at Amelia's friendly tourist office for an up to date list. You can eat wonderful gnocchi at the festa at Guardea and tasty wild boar at Alviano's festa. All the summer festas are great experiences, you'll step out of the usual tourist scene and into real life, as lived by the locals under the starry skies of lovely Umbria. Of course, there are endless sights to see, museums to visit and ancient ruins to explore too. You are within an hour's drive of the Marmore waterfall (see photos), Orvieto, Todi, Spoleto and cute Lake Bolsena, the ruins of Otricoli and the delight of medieval Narni (origin of CS Lewis's Narnia). In other words, you won't be short of things to do and see nearby.

The owners of La Casa Rossa love the place. They've lavished a host of caring attentions on La Rossa that serve to guarantee you'll love staying here. The garden is a green oasis stocked with amusements for all the family - there's ping pong, table football, the swimming pool, lots of divertimenti for tiny tots and a very fine barbecue for the men to play with.

Inside the house, on the ground floor, you'll fine the kitchen is very well equipped: everything from a huge selection of large coffee mugs to a dishwasher, oven, microwave, 5 gas hobs and dozens of pots, pans and crocks with a washing machine in the garage. You can dine in stylish comfort indoors or step outside to the outdoor table as the fancy takes you. The villa offers two sitting rooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. There's a large working fireplace in the downstairs sitting room, perfect for a roaring log fire if you are visiting in spring or autumn. It's always a bonus to have two sitting rooms, giving you space for sharing and space to retreat quietly if needed.

Upstairs, La Casa Rossa offers two charming single bedrooms, two double bedrooms and two bathrooms with showers. There is in fact a sofa bed in the upstairs sitting room, so if your party is large, on special request, you could actually sleep an extra two guests if required.

At the bottom of the garden there's a cute little cottage, just for two. The front door opens into a large sitting/dining room with its own open fire and a nicely equipped kitchen area at one end of the room. The large double bedroom is pretty and there's a bathroom with extra large shower right next door and that's it. A simple little place for those who want to be with the family, but need their own space. The cottage is available ONLY to those who've booked the main villa, otherwise, it remains closed.

La Casa Rossa is a very fine holiday rental - well looked after, well equipped and in a stunning location!

We liked the house very much especially the pool. We also received fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden: delicious!

Amelia is a very charming town and there are plenty of other old towns to visit in the neighborhood. We also hiked in the woods nearby. The air conditioning is only one room (and the annex), but because it wasn't very hot during the nights, it wasn't a problem.

A perfect family rental, great for kids-our little one was absolutely delighted with her bedroom and the toys available to her. The house was spacious and cool despite the summer heat, with lots of comfy nooks and crannies for lounging and reading. The kitchen was really well equipped and we had a fabulous Umbrian dinner catered for us on the covered, outdoor terrace.

The totally private, sunny pool area made it hard to leave the villa but it was worth it to visit Amelia, which is a beautiful town, is rich in history and has some really great restaurants.

We were very relaxed and happy here, I would highly recommend it to any family with children or indeed anyone who wants a truly peaceful and comfortable holiday.
